The Day Arlington
Wept©
It happened so suddenly, a clear and beautiful day, Life was going on, nothing unusual about the way. My thoughts were with the actions of the moment that all have shared here, With all it’s hustling pace, without a hint of fear. And then the sky turned to fire, with a noise I couldn’t believe A plane crashed into a building, no way could I conceive. Smoke darkening the sky, people running, the air was intense The world turned upside down, there was no common sense. As the day went on the horror was revealed and felt by all The country did all it could,to answer this tragic call The heroes we learned were ordinary, their looks were not part Of what America did today, coming from the heart. The actions all recorded, dictated by the news Of all the disaster we saw, without too many clues My heart was very heavy and my emotions extremely high I wanted to do so many things but all I could do was cry. Everyone in the country scrambled to see what they could do, Seeking comfort and direction; to help us all get through. This day of horror that affected us all, no matter when or where, So the poeple of this land move on,and not stop at despair. This has been told by many, throughout our nations past, Of all the lives that have been lost,to want our peace to last. But now the rules have changed and we see a new refrain The call goes out to all of us, we are partners in this pain. As the darkness of the night came down, many were afraid to sleep, Not being able to handle it all, they wanted only to weep. Their lives would change forever, never again would be the same, They called upon their God to help, while looking for the blame. The living were not the only ones that were affected by the day, All those that gave their lives for us begged us all to pray. That all would not be lost because of a terrorist act, But we will all be united, and freedom will be a fact. All the graves cried out from across this land and all around the earth At all the devastation, loss of life, these terrorists gave no worth So nows the time for all of you those tasks that need to be So Freedom rings out to all the world, from sea to shining sea. So as you go about your daily tasks, no matter what you do, Remember all of us who fought, to keep the freedom for you. We are no more, our tasks are done, being part of those that slept Our voices cry out along with you, the Day Arlington wept.
