Where Is Christmas?

Where is Christmas?

It is not in the silent snowfall.

Nor branches coated with rime,

Nor echoes of calling children

Fading over time

It is not in the festive packages,

Nor the gifts that emerge from the wrap,

Nor the early dark that begs

A winter’s nap.

It is not in the oven, nor fireplace,

Nor in baking and tasting of treats,

Nor steaming sage dressing and gravy

For savory meats.

It is not in the tinseled pine trees,

Nor the dazzling displays on the square,

Nor the green braided garland

Upon the stair.

It is not in bustling shoppers,

Nor the patient Santas in malls,

Nor the choirs singing carols

In concert halls.

Where is Christmas?

It is found in the humblest of people,

As daily they follow their King

Obediently; forgiveness and mercy

Do they bring.

And for each who knows where to find it,

Surely Christmas will ever be near,

Let this message inspire true Charity,

Year after year!
